A Georgia judge dismissed a DOJ lawsuit for wrong venue, allowing it to be refilled.
A federal judge in Georgia has dismissed a Justice Department lawsuit seeking voter data, ruling it was filed in the wrong judicial district—Macon instead of Atlanta, where Secretary of State Brad Raffensperger is based. The dismissal without prejudice allows the federal government to refile. The Justice Department has filed similar suits against 24 states and D.C. to obtain detailed voter information, citing election security, but a California judge previously rejected such a case over privacy concerns, and an Oregon judge may do the same. Raffensperger, a Republican, has refused to comply, citing Georgia law restricting release of sensitive voter data unless specific conditions are met, and says he has already shared public voter roll and list maintenance information. His stance has become a political issue in his 2026 gubernatorial campaign, drawing criticism from some Republican lawmakers who support Lt. Gov. Burt Jones, who has Trump’s backing and opposes Raffensperger’s resistance.
