A CBI-led Special Investigation Team has filed a chargesheet in the Tirumala laddu ghee scam, naming 36 individuals accused of a ₹250 crore fraud involving the supply of 68 lakh kg of synthetic ghee made from palm oil and chemicals to Tirumala Tirupati Devasthanams from 2019 to 2024.
The Supreme Court-ordered investigation revealed that Uttarakhand-based Bhole Baba Dairy, led by directors Pomil and Vipin Jain, colluded with TTD officials and external experts to falsify records and avoid quality checks.
Despite warnings, adulterated ghee for sacred laddus was supplied, with some officials allegedly bribed.
The case, which drew national attention due to allegations of animal fat use, found no evidence of beef or pig fat but did confirm widespread fraud and institutional failures.
The chargesheet was submitted to the Nellore ACB Court, indicating a significant step toward judicial action.
