BJP fined ₹19.7L for illegal hoardings during Modi’s visit, violating court orders.

The Thiruvananthapuram City Corporation, led by the BJP, fined the party’s district committee ₹19.7 lakh and filed a police case over unauthorized flex boards installed during Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s visit, violating High Court orders. The boards, placed from Palayam Junction to Pulimoodu Junction, obstructed footpaths and caused public inconvenience. The Cantonment police registered an FIR against BJP district president Karamana Jayan under the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita and Kerala Police Act for disobeying public orders and obstructing public ways. Despite prior directives to remove them, no action was taken until after the visit, prompting the penalty and ongoing investigation. The Kerala High Court is reviewing broader issues on illegal hoardings and urging local bodies to enforce compliance.
