Wilton wins $600K state grant to replace old salt shed, boosting storage and protecting water quality.
The Town of Wilton has won a $600,000 state environmental grant to replace its aging salt storage shed, with the project funded 75% by the state and 25% by the town.
The new shed, set for completion by fall, will triple storage capacity, reduce salt and sand runoff into Snook Kill Creek and groundwater, and allow the town to use salt alone during storms.
The upgrade addresses long-standing supply and environmental issues caused by overcapacity and outdated infrastructure.
The grant is part of a $211 million statewide initiative by Governor Kathy Hochul to improve water quality.
