Taiwan’s president denies supplying Ukraine with missile parts, reaffirms sanctions compliance, and offers cooperation to prevent evasion.
Taiwan’s President Lai Ching-te offered to cooperate with Ukraine on preventing sanctions evasion after Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskiy accused Taiwan of supplying illicit missile components.
Lai reaffirmed Taiwan’s support for international sanctions against Russia, highlighted strengthened export controls since 2022, and stated no chips or machine tools have been sent to Russia since April 2024.
He welcomed information sharing to combat transshipments and concealed end-uses, cited the sacrifice of Taiwanese volunteers in Ukraine, and emphasized Taiwan’s commitment to preventing its technology from aiding military aggression.
While lacking formal diplomatic ties, Taiwan has provided humanitarian aid through regional offices and aligns its export rules with the Wassenaar Arrangement.
Lai also drew parallels between Russia’s invasion of Ukraine and China’s stance toward Taiwan.
