South Asia’s first agroforestry congress, Treescapes 2026, will convene in New Delhi to advance tree-based farming for climate resilience and livelihoods.
TREESCAPES 2026, the first South Asian congress dedicated solely to agroforestry and trees outside forests, will take place February 5–7, 2026, in New Delhi, co-organized by CIFOR-ICRAF and India’s ICAR.
The event unites policymakers, researchers, farmers, and industry leaders to advance tree-based land use systems across South Asia, emphasizing climate resilience, sustainable livelihoods, and economic growth.
Agroforestry in India already contributes to carbon sequestration and farmer income, with one acre capturing up to 154.5 megagrams of CO₂ equivalent over nine years.
The congress will address barriers like policy gaps and financing, focusing on digital tools, water security, carbon finance, and farmer-led innovation to scale solutions and support regional climate and food security goals.
