Rafah crossing to reopen for aid and evacuations, pending Israeli approval and hostage release.
The Rafah border crossing between Gaza and Egypt is set to reopen next week for two-way travel, according to Ali Shaath, head of the U.S.-backed Palestinian technocratic committee administering Gaza.
The move, announced at a Davos event hosted by former President Donald Trump, marks a key step in a ceasefire agreement and aims to restore humanitarian access, medical evacuations, and aid delivery.
Israel’s security cabinet is expected to discuss the reopening, which remains contingent on ongoing efforts to secure the return of the last remaining Israeli hostage.
The crossing has been largely closed since May 2024, when Israel took control of the Palestinian side.
No official comment has been issued by Israel.
