Queen Camilla’s charity launches study on how five-minute group reading reduces stress and boosts wellbeing.
The Queen’s Reading Room, a charity founded by Queen Camilla in 2020, is launching a neuroscientific study to examine how group reading in book clubs affects stress, social connection, and mental wellbeing.
Led by Professor Sam Wass of the University of East London and supported by The Bentley Foundation, the research uses lab-controlled methods to build on earlier findings that just five minutes of fiction reading can reduce stress by nearly 20%.
The study, part of the charity’s fifth-anniversary campaign “Make Room for Reading,” encourages daily five-minute reading sessions.
Results are expected by World Mental Health Day in October.
