Ontario’s NDP blames the government for not stopping LifeLabs’ job cuts in Sudbury, despite its health worker retention program.
Ontario’s NDP MPPs Jamie West and France Gélinas are criticizing the provincial government for not stopping LifeLabs’ decision to cut 40 lab technician jobs in Sudbury, calling it contradictory to the government’s Learn and Stay Grant program that encourages health care workers to stay in underserved areas.
The cuts, following LifeLabs’ acquisition by U.S.-based Quest Diagnostics, will shift testing south, raising concerns about longer test results and job losses despite training investments.
The government says it won’t interfere in corporate operations, claiming service delivery won’t be affected.
