Michelle Kommer appointed to North Dakota’s higher education board to fill vacant seat, pending confirmation.
Michelle Kommer, a Fargo businesswoman and former North Dakota commerce commissioner, has been appointed to the State Board of Higher Education by Governor Kelly Armstrong, effective January 22, 2026, to fill the vacancy left by Levi Bachmeier, who became superintendent of public instruction.
Kommer, CEO of HighRoad Partners since 2020, brings experience from nearly four years in state government, including roles as labor commissioner and head of Job Service North Dakota.
She will serve the remainder of Bachmeier’s four-year term, ending June 30, 2029, pending Senate confirmation.
The board oversees North Dakota’s 11 public colleges and universities.
