A Mexican man with no criminal record remains detained by ICE despite a judge's bond approval, family says.
Juan Manuel Arellano Zepeda, a 48-year-old Mexican national and U.S. resident for 25 years, remains in ICE detention as of January 21, 2026, despite a federal judge approving a $6,500 bond on January 15.
His family says two attempts to pay the bond were not processed, violating the court order, and they plan to file a habeas corpus petition.
Detained on January 6 during Operation Metro Surge, Arellano Zepeda has no criminal record and is seeking a Visa T. Initially unaccounted for, he was identified in DHS and ICE photos and videos.
The family has launched a GoFundMe for legal costs and asserts his continued detention is unlawful.
