Lawmakers demand Meta and Google end DHS ad deals over racist content and ICE's hiring practices.
Democratic lawmakers Becca Balint and Pramila Jayapal have urged Meta and Google to end their ad partnerships with the DHS, citing ICE's use of digital ads—some featuring white nationalist imagery and neo-Nazi-linked slogans—for recruitment and "self-deportation" campaigns.
They highlighted $5.8 million in spending on the platforms over the past year, including $1 million on "self-deportation" ads in 90 days, and questioned how such content violated company hate speech policies.
The lawmakers also raised concerns over ICE’s rapid expansion, including signing bonuses up to $50,000, relaxed hiring standards, and inadequate training, which they say contributed to deaths in custody and unlawful raids.
They demanded transparency on the scope and review of the ad campaigns.
Los legisladores exigen que Meta y Google pongan fin a los acuerdos publicitarios del DHS sobre el contenido racista y las prácticas de contratación de ICE.
