Kitsap Dems accuse Rep. Simmons of misusing $30K in campaign funds for a Nevada nonprofit tied to former inmate Jovan Jackson; she denies wrongdoing.
A Kitsap County Democratic group has filed an ethics complaint against Washington state Rep. Tarra Simmons, alleging she used $30,000 in surplus campaign funds for donations to Better Minds Better Communities, a Nevada nonprofit with ties to former incarcerated lawmaker Jovan Jackson.
The group claims the nonprofit lacks a website, hasn’t filed IRS reports since 2021, and shares a business address with another entity linked to Jackson.
Simmons denies wrongdoing, saying she followed all laws and used a professional treasurer, and asserts the complaints are politically motivated.
The PDC will review the complaint within 90 days to determine if an investigation is warranted.
