India’s power grid hit 500,000 circuit km on Jan. 14, 2026, boosting renewable energy and national clean energy goals.
India’s power transmission network has surpassed 500,000 circuit kilometres, reaching a milestone on January 14, 2026, with the commissioning of a 765 kV line in Rajasthan.
Since April 2014, the network has expanded by 71.6%, adding 209,000 circuit kilometres and 876 GVA of transformation capacity.
The upgrade supports renewable energy integration, inter-regional power transfer, and the national goal of 500 GW of non-fossil capacity by 2030.
Additional projects are expected to add about 67,500 circuit kilometres and 533 GVA of capacity.
