Ghana's Chief Justice warned 52 new judges to use power responsibly, uphold integrity, and embrace technology to strengthen justice.
On January 22, 2026, Chief Justice Paul Baffoe-Bonnie urged 52 newly sworn-in Circuit Court judges in Ghana—40 promoted magistrates and 12 new appointees—to exercise judicial power responsibly, warning that abuse undermines public trust and weakens the rule of law.
Speaking at a ceremony in Accra, he emphasized that judicial authority comes from the people via the Constitution and must be used with integrity, independence, and sound legal reasoning.
He stressed the need for clear, impartial rulings that protect lives, families, and communities, and called for ethical conduct both in and out of court.
The Chief Justice also encouraged the adoption of digital tools to improve case management and access to justice.
