Cambridgeshire Council ordered to pay £3,600 for failing to support student with special needs plan.
Cambridgeshire County Council has been ordered to pay £3,600 after an investigation found it failed to timely support a student, Z, who stopped attending school despite having an Education, Health and Care Plan.
The Local Government and Social Care Ombudsman ruled the council’s seven-month delay in arranging alternative education, lack of proper reviews, and poor communication with the family amounted to inadequate action.
Although tutoring began in May 2025, the mother called it ineffective, and Z continues to attend his named school for only brief periods.
The family has appealed the school placement to a tribunal, and the council has apologized and agreed to review its processes.
