California will require employers to give workers annual rights notices and emergency contact forms starting Feb. 1, 2026.
Starting February 1, 2026, California employers must provide annual "Know Your Rights" notices to all employees and new hires, covering rights related to immigration, organizing, and interactions with law enforcement, in the employee’s usual language or English.
Employers must also allow employees to designate emergency contacts for arrest or detention by March 30, 2026, with new hires required to do so at onboarding.
Notices must be delivered via email, text, or print, and compliance records must be kept for three years.
Failure to comply may result in penalties, including up to $10,000 per employee.
