A Bayfield, Ontario, community garden moved to a new site after cemetery use was blocked.
A proposed community garden in Bayfield, Ontario, has moved for the second time after the Bereavement Authority of Ontario blocked its use of cemetery land.
The project, initially planned for the Bayfield Agricultural Society Grounds and later approved for the Bayfield Cemetery in 2025, was halted due to regulations prohibiting non-bereavement uses on cemetery property.
On January 12, council approved a new site at 2 Jane Street, adjacent to the Bayfield Area Food Bank, despite its smaller size.
The new location offers space for raised beds and water access.
Municipal staff are now developing an agreement to move forward with the project.
