Bahri Teaching Hospital in Sudan reopened after nearly 3 years of closure due to war, restored with $2M in aid.
Bahri Teaching Hospital in Khartoum, Sudan, has reopened after nearly three years of closure due to the war that began in April 2023.
Severely damaged and looted by the Rapid Support Forces, the hospital was restored with over $2 million in funding from the Sudanese American Physicians Association and Islamic Relief USA.
Now operating emergency, surgical, obstetrics, and gynecology units, it marks a small but significant step in rebuilding Sudan’s shattered healthcare system, though over two-thirds of the country’s health facilities remain closed and more than 11 million people are displaced.
