Assam has become the first Indian state to upgrade its Small Khelo India Centres by introducing Olympic-level coach training in partnership with the Inspire Institute of Sport.
The program, held in Guwahati, trained former elite athletes—including sprinter Chinmoy Baruah and discus thrower Juganta Changmai—using global coaching methods led by international experts Troy Douglas and Klaus Bartonietz.
Focus areas included biomechanics, movement efficiency, and technical precision to improve grassroots coaching.
The initiative aims to strengthen India’s sports pipeline by combining athlete experience with high-performance standards, supporting national Olympic ambitions and establishing Assam as a model for community-based sports development.
