The unrest followed a court-ordered survey of the Shahi Jama Masjid, initially peaceful but turning violent when a mob of 2,000 to 3,000 people began stone-throwing, leading to three deaths, over two dozen injuries, and widespread damage. Police used tear gas, imposed prohibitory orders, and shut down internet and schools to restore order. Authorities stressed all measures were taken in strict compliance with judicial directives.
