U.S. sanctions six Gaza aid groups and a Palestinian organization, alleging ties to Hamas, freezing assets and blocking U.S. transactions.
The U.S. Treasury has imposed sanctions on six Gaza-based Palestinian aid organizations—Waed Society, Al-Nur, Qawafil, Al-Falah, Merciful Hands, and Al-Salameh—accusing them of supporting Hamas’s military wing, the Qassam Brigades, through funding, logistics, or sheltering personnel.
The move, announced January 21, 2026, freezes their U.S.-based assets and bans transactions with U.S. persons.
The Treasury also sanctioned The Popular Conference for Palestinians Abroad and its founder, Zaher Khaled Hassan Birawi, labeling them a Hamas front.
Officials stated the action targets terrorist financing, not legitimate humanitarian work or protected speech, and aims to ensure aid reaches genuine recipients while disrupting Hamas’s operations.
