Todd Burkhalter, 54, of St. Petersburg, Florida, pleaded guilty to wire fraud in a $380 million Ponzi scheme run through his Alpharetta-based firm, Drive Planning LLC, defrauding over 2,000 investors.
Prosecutors say he falsely claimed investments were backed by real estate, promising 10% quarterly returns, while using funds for luxury purchases including a $2 million yacht, a $2.1 million condo in Mexico, and private jets.
He misled investors, including those using retirement savings, and continued the scheme despite a federal investigation launched in March 2024.
A court-appointed receiver is recovering assets, but full restitution is unlikely.
Burkhalter faces a sentence of about 17.5 years in prison.
