From January 13 to 19, a joint Singaporean operation at land, air, and sea checkpoints caught 70 travelers for evading taxes and duties on goods like cigarettes, liquor, smartwatches, and roller blinds, with $3,398 in unpaid duties and GST and $21,990 in fines imposed.
Two individuals were caught with undeclared cash over $20,000—one fined $9,000, the other warned.
Authorities stressed that failing to declare large cash amounts or dutiable goods can lead to fines up to $50,000, jail terms, or asset confiscation.
