San Diego gets $4.36M in federal funds to upgrade stormwater systems and reduce flood risks from severe storms.
San Diego has received $4.36 million in federal funding for four stormwater projects aimed at reducing flood risks, particularly in areas hit hard by 2024 flooding.
The funds, secured by Reps. Scott Peters and Juan Vargas, will upgrade drainage systems, including the Beta Street Channel, Jamacha Drainage Channel, Famosa Slough alleyway, and Pump Station D, with improvements designed to handle a 100-year storm.
The projects are part of the Congressional Community Project Funding process, through which San Diego has now received over $45 million since 2022.
Officials say the investment is critical for climate resilience, though recovery from the 2024 floods remains incomplete for many residents.
