Romania's oil and gas output dropped in 2025, but no energy shortage occurred due to lower consumption and high storage.

Romania's crude oil production fell 7.5% and gas production declined 1% in the first 11 months of 2025, while imports rose sharply—11.8% for oil and 70.9% for gas. Despite lower domestic output, final energy consumption dropped 0.7%, and gas storage stood at 59%, indicating no energy shortage. Electricity and thermal energy production is projected to grow by 0.8% in 2026, with continued expansion of renewables, including hybrid wind-solar projects and nuclear power, as key pillars of the country’s energy security and decarbonization strategy.
