Pittsburgh's Carnegie Museum unveils rare fossils and artifacts in new exhibit "The Stories We Keep."
The Carnegie Museum of Natural History in Pittsburgh has opened "The Stories We Keep," a new exhibition offering rare public access to thousands of fossils and ancient artifacts from its 22 million-object collection.
Featuring less than 1% of the museum’s holdings, the display includes a fossilized bird feather from Utah, a cuneiform cylinder from King Nebuchadnezzar II, a pygmy hippopotamus jaw, a Pennsylvania meteorite, and a 40-foot Egyptian funerary boat.
A key component is the Visible Collections lab, where visitors can observe conservation staff in real time and interact with scientists.
Additional displays highlight toxic and radioactive minerals and 13 million invertebrate specimens from lost habitats.
Unveiled in November, the exhibit aims to reveal the stories behind preserved objects and offers a dynamic, evolving experience.
