NYC sues Jordan McGraw to block release of unredacted police footage, citing officer safety risks and contract violations.
New York City has sued Jordan McGraw, Dr. Phil's son, to prevent the release of unredacted NYPD footage from his documentary "Behind the Badge," citing threats to officer safety, including the exposure of undercover officer identities and a secret station passcode. The city claims McGraw ignored a contract clause that allowed for the review of sensitive content, despite three objections from former Mayor Eric Adams' office. The project, which was approved without the consent of Police Commissioner Jessica Tisch, sparked concerns after Adams' campaign paid $500,000 to a company linked to McGraw, despite the fact that no such entity exists in Texas. McGraw's attorney claims the lawsuit violates the First Amendment, while Adams praises the film for accurately depicting police risks. The NYPD has declined to comment.
