Maharashtra to develop nuclear SMRs with Indian and Russian firms, aiming to power data centers and private industry.

After signing memorandums with a Russian and Indian company, Maharashtra Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis declared at the Davos summit that the state is pursuing nuclear energy through Small Modular Reactors (SMRs). The first project, which aims to satisfy the growing energy demand from data centers and the private sector, is anticipated in Maharashtra. At the same time, IREDA signed agreements for low-carbon industrial zones with Sembcorp and digital twin technology partnerships with German and international academic institutions, resulting in a 22.5% compound annual growth rate in India's renewable energy sector over a five-year period.
