LA Metro to vote on $10B+ underground rail from Van Nuys to UCLA, cutting commute time and easing 405 congestion.
The Los Angeles Metro Board is set to vote on January 22, 2026, on the Sepulveda Transit Corridor, a multibillion-dollar underground heavy-rail project linking the San Fernando Valley to West Los Angeles.
The approved route would run from Van Nuys to Sherman Oaks, pass under the Santa Monica Mountains, include a stop at UCLA, and connect to the E Line, cutting travel time to under 30 minutes.
It replaces a previous monorail plan and skips the Getty Center to address community concerns.
The project, long delayed, has drawn thousands of public comments and is backed by local leaders who cite its potential to reduce 405 Freeway congestion.
While no updated cost estimate is available, earlier projections ranged from $9.4 billion to $13.8 billion by 2033.
Federal funding is still needed to move forward.
