Italy’s WASS has won a ₹1,896 crore contract to supply 48 Black Shark Advanced torpedoes to India’s Navy for integration with Kalvari-class submarines, with deliveries starting April 2028 and ending by early 2030.
The deal, under the Buy Global category, aims to boost underwater combat capabilities and supports future Make in India goals through potential technology transfer and local production.
The torpedo, already used by seven navies, is designed for flexible integration across current and future platforms.
The Indian Ministry of Defence said the acquisition strengthens naval readiness, while WASS and parent company Fincantieri highlighted the agreement as a strategic step toward deeper industrial collaboration.
