India launches first private Earth observation satellite constellation, Allied Orbits, with four startups, to boost domestic data sovereignty and support critical sectors.
India has launched its first privately led Earth observation satellite constellation, named Allied Orbits, through a public-private partnership with four startups—Pixxel, Dhruva Space, PierSight, and Satsure.
The consortium will invest over ₹1,200 crore to build and operate 12 satellites with high-resolution optical, multispectral, SAR, and hyperspectral imaging capabilities, launching the first four by early 2027.
The system will provide continuous Earth intelligence for government and commercial use, supporting agriculture, disaster management, climate monitoring, infrastructure, and national security.
All components will be developed, launched, and operated in India, enhancing data sovereignty and reducing reliance on foreign satellite data.
The project marks a major shift toward private-sector leadership in national space infrastructure.
