Ford recalls 119,000 vehicles over fire risk from faulty engine block heaters.

Ford is recalling about 119,000 vehicles, including certain 2013–2024 Ford and Lincoln models, due to a fire risk from engine block heaters that may crack and leak coolant, potentially causing electrical short circuits when plugged in. The hazard only occurs while powered. Warning signs include coolant leaks, loss of cabin heat, overheating, or a burning smell. Ford advises owners not to use the block heater until repairs are made. Free replacements or permanent disabling via a threaded plug are available. Interim notifications begin February 9. As of December 3, Ford reported 12 fire incidents involving 2.0L Escape models, but no injuries or accidents have been linked to the issue. Owners can check if their vehicle is affected using the VIN on the NHTSA website.
