A 38-year-old Australian man denied bail in 2026 on charges of sexually abusing his 5-year-old niece and threatening his ex-partner with a bat.
A 38-year-old man from the Australian Capital Territory has been denied bail for a third time on charges of sexually abusing his five-year-old niece in 2024, including grooming and exposing her to pornography, while babysitting.
He also faces separate charges for allegedly stabbing and threatening his former partner with a bat during a home confrontation later that year.
Magistrate Ian Temby cited the man’s extensive history of family violence, assaults, and breaches of protection orders, as well as evidence he was on a NSW intensive correction order at the time of the abuse, concluding he poses a serious risk to public safety and the child’s welfare.
The child abuse case remains in the Magistrates Court, while the violent incident charges have been committed to the Supreme Court.
The case is set to return in February.
