U.S. military forces seized the Liberian-flagged oil tanker Sagitta in the Caribbean, marking the seventh such seizure linked to Venezuela under Trump’s maritime quarantine. The vessel, owned by a Hong Kong-based company and previously sanctioned over Russia’s invasion of Ukraine, was reportedly carrying Venezuelan crude and had not transmitted its location for over two months. The operation, conducted by U.S. Southern Command without incident, is part of a broader effort to control Venezuela’s oil exports, with the administration asserting only U.S.-coordinated shipments will be allowed, aiming to generate revenue and rebuild the nation’s oil sector.
