UK leader Ed Davey condemns Trump’s Greenland threats, warning of severed ties and urging EU unity against U.S. coercion.
UK Liberal Democrat leader Ed Davey sharply criticized President Donald Trump, calling him an "international gangster" and "the most corrupt president in U.S. history," amid escalating tensions over Trump’s threats to impose 10–25% tariffs on UK and European imports unless they support his push to acquire Greenland.
Davey warned the historic UK-US relationship is nearing collapse, accusing past UK governments of appeasement and urging unity with European allies to resist what he described as aggressive, destabilizing foreign policy.
Irish MEP Barry Andrews echoed concerns, condemning Trump’s transactional approach and lack of strategic foresight, particularly regarding Arctic security, and said the EU should prepare to use its €93 billion retaliatory tariff plan and Anti-Coercion Instrument if U.S. threats materialize.
Both leaders stressed that any attempt to undermine Greenland’s or Denmark’s sovereignty would be met with firm resistance.
