Tanzanian rail officer Amina Sauko trained in China and now mentors others in Tanzania, advancing local rail expertise.
In 2025, Amina Ally Sauko, a 35-year-old transport officer at Tanzania Railways Corporation, trained in China as part of a program for 67 Tanzanian railway professionals, including 11 women.
Hosted by Beijing Jiaotong University and Zhengzhou Railway Vocational and Technical College under a China Civil Engineering Construction Corporation initiative, the three-month program focused on modern rail operations, safety, maintenance, and automation.
Amina gained hands-on experience in Zhengzhou, a major rail hub, and now applies her training at Tanzania’s Operation Control Center, where she also mentors others as a “seed instructor.” The effort marks a shift in China-Tanzania cooperation from building rail infrastructure to developing local expertise and sustainable operational capacity.
