Most Singaporeans use AI chatbots for work and school, not emotions, and are cautious about misinformation and relationships.
According to a 2025 survey of 3,713 Singaporean adults, the majority of them use AI chatbots for information, work, and school-related tasks rather than for social or emotional communication. More than 60% use chatbots, 61% for academic or professional purposes and 81.2% for recommendations. Just 11.8% engage in casual conversation, and roughly 10% look for emotional support. More than 92% of respondents say caution is necessary, 87.3% think chatbots disseminate false information, and more than 70% believe they lower real-world connections and raise irrational expectations for relationships. The majority of close friends were made in person, so in-person friendships are still strong despite the use of AI.
