The Freedom Plane National Tour, a 2026 cross-country exhibition by the National Archives, will showcase original founding-era documents in eight U.S. cities, including Kansas City, Miami, and Los Angeles, to mark the 250th anniversary of American independence. Featuring irreplaceable items like the 1823 copperplate engraving of the Declaration of Independence, the Treaty of Paris, and oaths from George Washington and Alexander Hamilton, the tour replaces the 1976 Freedom Train with a plane to reach more communities. All documents are authentic, with no copies, and exhibits are free but require advance tickets through host museums’ websites. The goal is to make foundational American history accessible nationwide.
