A man was ticketed and his unsafe, modified car impounded after speeding at 130 km/h in a rural BC zone.
A 22-year-old Kelowna man was stopped for speeding at 130 km/h in an 80 km/h zone on Highway 3 near Christina Lake on January 9.
His modified grey Acura, featuring a rear window replaced with rebar and duct tape and a driver’s door secured by a welded gate latch, was deemed unsafe and not roadworthy.
The vehicle was towed and impounded for seven days, and the driver was issued a ticket, fined, and required to repair and re-inspect the car before driving again.
He also faces higher insurance premiums for three years.
Authorities stressed that modifications to critical vehicle parts must be properly inspected and warned against operating unsafe vehicles, especially at high speeds.
