A man was charged with second-degree murder in the Jan. 10 stabbing death of a woman at a North Dakota casino.
A 58-year-old man, Rigoberto Mendez-Morales, has been federally charged with second-degree murder in the Jan. 10 stabbing death of a woman at the SkyDancer Casino on the Turtle Mountain Reservation.
Authorities say he called 911 reporting finding the woman dead in a hotel room, where she had multiple stab wounds.
Blood on his clothes and a bloody multi-tool were found in his possession, and surveillance showed only he and the victim entered the room.
Mendez-Morales told investigators he remembered drinking but had no memory of the incident.
The victim, an enrolled member of the Three Affiliated Tribes, has not been publicly identified.
The FBI is leading the investigation, and the U.S. Attorney’s Office is prosecuting.
If convicted, he could face life in prison.
