Maharashtra opposes Abu Salem’s parole request, citing flight risk and diplomatic concerns, urging two-day supervised release.
The Maharashtra government has opposed Abu Salem’s request for 14-day parole, warning he may flee and damage India’s diplomatic ties with Portugal, which extradited him in 2005.
Officials cite his history of evading justice since 1993 and urge the Bombay High Court to allow only a two-day emergency parole with strict supervision.
The CBI and Uttar Pradesh police also oppose the request, citing security and communal sensitivities.
The court will reconsider the case on January 28, 2026.
