Lehigh County demands DHS leave Allentown office within 30 days over $115K in unpaid rent and no valid lease.
Lehigh County has demanded the Department of Homeland Security vacate its leased office space in Allentown within 30 days, citing over $115,000 in unpaid rent accumulated over three years.
Officials say no valid lease was ever finalized, despite a 2022 agreement meant to lead to one, and that ICE’s presence without payment violated fiscal policies.
County leaders, including Controller Mark Pinsley and Executive Josh Siegel, called for eviction over unpaid rent and concerns about federal enforcement practices, while District Attorney Gavin Holihan defended the partnership, noting Homeland Security Investigations’ role in fighting human trafficking and drug crimes.
The county plans legal action to recover funds and has created a public database for reporting ICE activities.
Congresswoman Ryan Mackenzie criticized the move as politically motivated.
DHS and ICE did not comment.
