Kenya investigates deadly 2025 Nairobi-Nakuru crash killing former minister Cyrus Jirongo.
Kenya’s Directorate of Criminal Investigations is probing the December 13, 2025, fatal head-on crash on the Nairobi-Nakuru highway that killed former Cabinet minister Cyrus Jirongo, with National Assembly Speaker Moses Wetang’ula among 28 people questioned. The crash, which occurred at 2:18 a.m. near Eagol Petrol Station, sparked suspicions of foul play due to unanswered questions about Jirongo’s presence in Naivasha, whether he was driving, airbag failure, and injury inconsistencies. Investigators, led by DCI Director Mohamed Amin and Homicide Bureau head Martin Nyuguto, have interviewed Jirongo’s family, witnesses, bus crew, and passengers from the 51-person Climax bus that departed Machakos at 9:30 p.m. with multiple stops. While police maintain the incident was an accident, the probe remains open, with the DCI urging public cooperation and committing to forward the case to the Director of Public Prosecutions.
