Julia Letlow’s Senate run opens Louisiana’s 5th District seat, sparking a competitive GOP race starting Feb. 11.

In order to run for the U.S. Congress, Julia Letlow is resigning from her position in Louisiana's 5th Congressional District. Senate, resulting in an open race that is competitive. In addition to Dixon McMakin, Garret Graves (who might return despite redistricting), Rick Edmonds, Larry Davis, Daryl Deshotel, and Misti Cordell, Republican state lawmakers Michael Echols and Stewart Cathey are also contemplating bids. Candidates will begin filing on February 11 in the Republican-leaning district, and Graves' possible entry will probably affect the choices of a number of candidates.
