Jamaican triplets aim to make history at the 2026 Winter Olympics, challenging diversity norms in a sport where they’re underrepresented.
Eighteen-year-old Jamaican triplets Helaina, Henri IV, and Henniyah Rivers are aiming to make history by representing Jamaica at the 2026 Winter Olympics in Milano-Cortina, a country not traditionally linked to winter sports.
Born in Brooklyn and raised in Windham, New York, the siblings began skiing at 18 months and have competed in international FIS races, with Henri IV securing a spot in the slalom and his sisters close to qualifying.
Their journey, driven by family passion and supported by the Jamaica Ski Federation and the National Brotherhood of Snowsports, has cost about $80,000 for one training block.
As Black athletes in a predominantly white sport, they seek to inspire future athletes of color and challenge the sport’s lack of diversity, with long-term goals extending to the 2030 and 2034 Winter Games.
