A Hawaii man was charged after stealing a car, fleeing police, injuring two officers, and being found with a loaded gun.
A 24-year-old Hawaii Island man, Hayden Bruce, was charged with auto theft, assault on police officers, and firearms offenses after allegedly stealing a gray Kia Soul and fleeing police on January 18, 2026.
Officers responded to a report of reckless driving and found Bruce in the stolen vehicle near Kurtistown, where he refused to exit.
When officers attempted to intervene, Bruce reversed at high speed, injuring two officers and damaging a police vehicle.
A loaded 9mm pistol and live ammunition were recovered from the car.
Bruce, who had two outstanding warrants, was arrested, held on $97,200 bail, and appeared in court the following day.
Both officers sustained minor injuries and received treatment.
A preliminary hearing is set for January 22.
