The Fourth Circuit upheld Maryland’s ban on guns in most sensitive places, calling it constitutional under the Second Amendment.
The Fourth Circuit Court of Appeals has upheld most of Maryland’s law banning firearms in sensitive locations, including schools, government buildings, hospitals, stadiums, and private property not open to the public, calling the restrictions constitutional under the Second Amendment’s “sensitive places” exception.
The court struck down the provision banning guns on private property open to the public unless the owner consents, ruling it unconstitutional.
It also reversed lower court decisions, finding constitutional restrictions within 1,000 feet of public demonstrations and alcohol-serving venues.
The ruling aligns with broader judicial support for such laws and comes as the U.S. Supreme Court considers similar cases in Hawaii and California.
