BC Hydro and Nisga’a Nation agree on transmission line to power Ksi Lisims LNG project, pending final investment decision.
British Columbia Energy Minister Adrian Dix announced an agreement between BC Hydro and the Nisga’a First Nation to advance the Ksi Lisims LNG project, a proposed floating facility near Prince Rupert.
The North Coast Transmission Line, set to begin construction this summer, will deliver up to 600 megawatts of clean electricity to power the project, which has received environmental approval from both provincial and federal governments.
The project, expected to produce 12 million tonnes of LNG annually, still awaits a final investment decision, but the transmission line is seen as essential to attract private investment.
Both the line and the LNG project are designated as major projects of national importance and are expected to boost economic development in northwestern B.C.’s Golden Triangle region.
