Riad Bouchaker, accused of stabbing three children and a care worker near a Dublin school in Nov. 2023, is fit to stand trial despite mental health concerns.
Riad Bouchaker, 51, accused of attempting to murder three children and assaulting a care worker in a November 2023 attack near a Dublin school, has been deemed fit to stand trial by a state forensic psychiatrist.
Despite a serious neurocognitive disorder linked to prior brain surgery and injury, the expert concluded Bouchaker understands the charges and can participate in his defense with accommodations.
The court heard conflicting psychiatric opinions, with defense experts arguing he suffers from moderate dementia and is unfit to plead.
Prosecutors said four children were stabbed, one with life-altering injuries, and the care worker was wounded.
A follow-up hearing is set for Tuesday before Mr Justice Tony Hunt.
